Physiotherapy, BSc Hons (Degree Apprenticeship)
Our Physiotherapy Degree Apprenticeship will equip you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in your career as a Physiotherapist.
As a physiotherapist, you will help improve the quality of life for people who are injured, ill, or living with disabilities.
You will do this through a combination of patient-centred manual therapy, movement, exercise, and education. In your varied and rewarding role, you will help patients achieve better health outcomes and recover from illnesses and injuries. You will have the opportunity to work in various settings, including the NHS, care homes, and sports centres.
This degree apprenticeship is Level 6 and the standard can be found here on the Institute for Apprenticeships website. It is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council.
To be eligible, you must be employed in an appropriate position for the entire duration of the degree apprenticeship programme, including your end-point assessment.

The programme is delivered by a highly experienced team of academic and clinical physiotherapists.Our team brings a wide range of specialties to the course with many still currently active in clinical work. Our collaboration across the School of Health Sciences brings greater depth, knowledge, and expertise from professions that you will be working with during your time at university and practice placements.

Entry requirements
New: Apprentices will have to meet the entry requirements set by the university. They must also have achieved Level 2 English and mathematics prior to starting this apprenticeship.
OR:
Existing: 104 UCAS points from A-levels, with no more than 12 points should come from AS-levels.
PLUS GCSEs including English Language and Mathematics with a minimum of grade A-C/9-4 or recognised equivalent are required.
Applicants must have:
- Transferable skills and readiness to study at the undergraduate level
- Approximately two years of employment in a relevant health or social care setting.

English Language Requirements:
In line with HCPC requirements we expect student who have English as an additional language to demonstrate proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing. We will therefore accept the International English Language Test System (IELTS) academic examination certificate that confirms an overall score of at least 7 or at least 6.5 in the writing section and at least 7 in the reading, listening and speaking sections.

How you will learn
Teaching
Learning takes place through a combination of timetabled learning and independent study.
You can view more information about how each module is taught within our 'What you will study' section.
Seminars and workshops enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups. You will also be able to meet your personal tutor. Timetabled learning may fall between 9am and 9pm depending on your courses and tutorials.
Class sizes
Class sizes vary by module. Lectures are normally attended by larger groups, and seminars/tutorials by smaller groups. This can vary more widely for modules that are shared between degrees. All students will have opportunities for 1-to-1 time with their tutors. The course for apprentices is taught alongside our undergraduate students where we anticipate a cohort of between 20-25 combined.
Independent learning
Outside of timetabled sessions, you are also expected to dedicate around 30 hours a week to self-study. This may involve further reading and research, preparing coursework and presentations, and preparing for tests and exams. Our facilities are designed to support you in these activities.
We encourage you to join societies and participate in sporting and other activities to engage in the wider life of the university community.
Overall workload
Workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars, workshops), independent learning, placements and assessments. Each module you study towards this degree is worth 30 credits. These represent around 300 hours respectively.

Each course has formal assessments which count towards your grade. Some courses may also include 'practice' assignments, which help you monitor progress and do not count towards your final grade.
Feedback summary
We aim to provide feedback on assignments and to release examination results within 15 working days. Feedback is provided on our VLE and followed up with personal tutorial meetings to help students learn, reflect and move forward in their programme and career.

Fees and funding
The course fees are shared between government and employers. Visit our degree apprenticeships pages to find out how the cost of your course is met.
Other costs
Additional costs will include placement travel costs (dependant on placement location and based on excess or additional costs. Can be claimed back via NHS TDAE), CSP Student membership fees (£44.04 per year or £3.67 per month) and additional optional society fees. Additional costs for field trips may occur during the course with some of these being optional (T.B.C.).
Further costs may include (but are not limited to):
- Resources: you may need to purchase books for your studies, as well as appropriate sports kit
- Field trips: you may need to contribute towards the outdoor and adventurous activity field trip(s) (estimate, £100-£300).
