Graduate Diploma Enhanced Clinical Practice (Apprenticeship)
Our exciting new part-time apprenticeship programme is for healthcare professionals who wish to meet the requirements of the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner.
The graduate diploma in Enhanced Clinical Practice (degree apprenticeship) Level 6 Part time over 2 years.
This is an exciting new part-time apprenticeship programme (including an End Point Assessment) for healthcare professionals who wish to meet the requirements of the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner. Student apprentices will complete 100 credits at level 6 and 20 credits at level 7 to be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Enhanced Clinical Practice. The 120 credits will be completed part time over 2 years with 60 credits in year 1 and 60 credits in year 2. The inclusion of 20 credits at level 7 in year 2 facilitates the transition to master’s level study in the future.
An individual learning plan for each apprentice will be discussed at the point of interview and students who have completed standalone CPD modules previously at Level 6 may be able to use these credits through RPL (recognition of prior learning process) towards their graduate diploma. Please discuss this with the programme leader in the first instance. A maximum of 50% RPL is permitted for this programme.
The Enhanced Clinical Practice Apprenticeship course delivers the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard ST0895 and End Point Assessment Plan listed on the instituteforapprenticeships.org website.
Applicants should agree in advance with their employer Education/Apprenticeship Lead which course they will be applying for.

What you will study
About the course team
Students will be taught by a diverse range of experienced academics and interdisciplinary professionals. The team includes senior lecturers, associate professors and hourly paid lecturers who are working in clinical practice. Teaching is informed by research and current evidence and the majority of academics hold a teaching qualification.

Entry requirements
Before starting this apprenticeship, an apprentice must meet the gateway requirements. For this apprenticeship they are:
- Registration with a statutory healthcare regulator including: NMC, HCPC, Social Work England, or with one of the following accredited voluntary registers: The Academy for Healthcare Science, Register of Clinical Technologists or Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists.
- Apprentices must undertake revalidation processes or audit their continuing professional development where these apply.
- You will need GCSE at grade A-C/9-4 in mathematics and English or recognised level 2 equivalents for entry
- For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
The employer must complete on behalf of the applicant.
Once the entry requirements have been checked the applicants will be invited to attend for a compulsory informal interview.

- Each module has its own pre-requisites that may apply (please see individual module specifications)
- Some clinical practice modules for example, critical care, midwifery, or general practice require applicants to be patient facing for a minimum of 21 hours per week and have the support of a clinical manager and appropriately qualified assessor.

How you will learn
Teaching
Learning takes place through a combination of timetabled learning and independent study.
You can view more information about how each module is taught within our 'What you will study' section.
Seminars and workshops enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups. You will also be able to meet your personal tutor. Timetabled learning may fall between 9am and 9pm depending on your courses and tutorials.
Class sizes
This is new programme so we expect there to be 10 apprentices approximately this academic year. The numbers may increase next year depending upon interest and availability. Apprentices will study alongside students on other programmes. Usually the classes size is between 30-50 students from varying professions relating to healthcare. Skills sessions are usually taught with smaller numbers though to facilitate learning.
Independent learning
You are expected to carry out 20 hours a week independent learning in addition to the taught sessions.
Throughout your apprenticeship, we will encourage you to learn independently with support from your lecturers and tutors to achieve your goals and broaden your knowledge through online learning and independent reading.
In addition, during the week you can also:
- Join student societies.
- Attend additional support seminars and workshops in some modules
- Attend guest lectures from industry experts
- Take part in employability and enterprise workshops.
Overall workload
This is a part time programme. Consisting of one study a week on campus. The day will vary depending upon the individual module. Additional study time will need to be negotiated with the employer as appropriate. Students should be prepared to study in their own time.

Each course has formal assessments which count towards your grade. Some courses may also include 'practice' assignments, which help you monitor progress and do not count towards your final grade.
Feedback summary
We aim to provide feedback on assignments and to release examination results within 15 working days.

Fees and funding
Tuition fees
The course fees are shared between government and employers. Visit our degree apprenticeships pages to find out how the cost of your course is met.
Other costs
Apprenticeships are paid for by employers, not apprentices.
Employers with a payroll of more than £3 million can use their apprenticeship levy contributions to pay for places on apprenticeship programmes.
Any business with a payroll below £3 million is eligible for government funding that will cover at least 95% of the cost of an apprenticeship programme.
Additional incentives are also available to employers who take on young apprentices.
