If you have a postgraduate diploma, or credits for conversion, our top-up degree by blended learning offers the chance to gain a Master's in Healthcare Practice.

This Healthcare Practice MA is a top-up degree comprising two modules to develop your leadership skills, your academic rigour and your ability to link research to practice. You will build on your existing postgraduate award and increase your confidence in appraisal of literature. The course is ideal if you have a postgraduate diploma or 120 credits at Level 7 and wish to build on them for a Master's degree in Healthcare Practice.

Employers are seeking people with competent research skills to deliver evidence-based practice. You will develop these skills with an independent research-informed study, in which you devise and propose a project for change, undertake an audit or service evaluation or an extended literature review on a topic of your choice. With us, you will become an independent thinker who is knowledgeable about ethics and technologically confident in unfamiliar situations.

How you will learn

Teaching

The course uses applied and shared learning. Both 20-credit modules are a blend of classroom and online attendance which allows for webcam participation. 'The Dynamics of Dissemination: Publishing, Promoting and Performing your Studies' is one day per month.

The project and dissertation module is also one day per month between January and May, with expert supervisors guiding each candidate.

Class sizes

The typical intake for the MA Healthcare Practice is about 6-10 but numbers increase to 20–30 for modules that overlap with the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice.

Independent learning

Outside formal teaching, you work independently to complete coursework and assignments. You can access expert support from library services, personal tutors and dedicated supervisors to assist with your project and dissertation.

You can also join student societies and learn skills to become an active sharer in online/social media communities.

Overall workload

Your overall workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars, etc), independent learning, and assessments. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.

Assessment

Research methods assessment is a conference-style presentation, proposing your project. The dynamics of dissemination assignment is preparation of professional/academic dissemination;the project is a 10,000-word dissertation of an extended critical review, independent audit or work-based project.
