Dr Peter Good BA (Hons), MA, PhD, PGCertHE, FRHistS, FHEA

Lecturer in History

Peter’s work examines a range of topics relating to the Early Modern Indian Ocean, especially relating to the Safavid Empire, Persian Gulf and European East India Companies. His past research has examined the relationship between the English/British East India Company and Safavid Persia in the 18th Century. His research has particularly focussed on placing a “Persian voice” in the history of the British presence in the Gulf and beyond. More recently, his work has centred the experience of the non-Europeans who worked for European companies around the Indian Ocean, alongside how Europeans adopted local practices of sociability and patronage, especially drinking Persian wine.

Peter is happy to provide supervision on topics relating to the Early Modern Indian Ocean, Iran and the Gulf, in addition to topics covering the East India Company.
