Dr Makuochi Samuel Nkwo
Lecturer in Computer Science
Makuochi Samuel Nkwo is a Doctor in Computer Science, and Lecturer in the School of Computing and Mathematical Science, Faculty of Engineering and Science, University of Greenwich. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGD Education) from National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), which is equivalent to the UK PG Cert in Education.
Prior to joining the University of Greenwich, Makuochi was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Namibia, Windhoek (2022 – 2023) where he led the Responsible Human-Centred AI in Africa (RHAI-AFRICA) project funded by Google. This project was selected as one of the 19 Excellent AI Research Projects by IRCAI UNESCO Global Top 100, in their 2022 Report. He is an active and interdisciplinary researcher at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI), responsible AI, trustworthy AI, and AI ethics, persuasive technologies, and psychology. He has done evidence-based, and impactful single and collaborative research, and has published high-quality research papers across various application domains such as Health & Wellness, Teaching & Learning, eCommerce & Marketing, Workplaces and Environmental Sustainability.
Responsibilities within the university
- Lecturer - Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience Design (UX), Strategic IT, and other Undergraduate and Postgraduate computing modules
- Research activities at the intersection of HCI, Persuasive Technologies, Responsible/Trustworthy AI, AI Ethics, and other emerging technologies.
- Undergraduate and Postgraduate Research Project Supervisions.

Awards
- Flexi-Grant Award for the UK-Italy Trustworthy AI Visiting Researcher Programme, The Alan Turing Institute, London, UK, July 2023.
- One of the 19 Excellent AI Research Projects by IRCAI UNESCO Global Top 100 2022 Report for Responsible Human-Centred AI in Africa (RHAI-AFRICA). I led this project as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Google Funded Fellowship) at the University of Namibia. 2022 - 2023.
