Key details
Dr Fuchen Jia
Senior Lecturer
I have been working within Fire Safety Engineering Group since November, 1994. I am a key member of the team of the CFD fire modelling software SMARTFIRE which is currently sold and used internationally. I have been responsible for developing and implementing within SMARTFIRE models of fundamental features of fire development including radiation, combustion, turbulence and fire spread. My work on the simulation of fire spread within Swiss Air SR111 won the Gold Award and George Taylor Prize for the best paper in 2006 in the Aeronautical Journal, the Royal Aeronautical Society. My modelling work on CFD fire analysis of the fatal aircraft crash is a pioneering application of fire simulation in an air crash investigation.
