Dr Philip Bright BSc (Hons), PGCRM, PGCHE, PhD, FHEA

Academic Programme Lead

Philip has worked across a variety of industries, returning to education after initially withdrawing from a B.Ed degree to pursue a career in retail banking that led to working in IT as an analyst programmer and database consultant. This preceded a further change to retrain as an osteopath, graduating from the European School of Osteopathy in 2009. Following qualification, Philip ran a range of multidisciplinary clinics treating both the public and athletes, alongside working in education and research. This included teaching soft-tissue techniques, injury management/rehabilitation and research methods while providing care at events such as the London Olympics, Oxfam Trailwalk and London Marathon. Further post-graduate teaching and research qualifications were gained, culminating in a PhD with the University of Kent, exploring use of technology in rehabilitation and support for knee pain sufferers.

While completing his PhD, Philip was promoted to Head of Research and Professional Development for the European School of Osteopathy. This role segued into the Head of Research for the BCNO Group that was formed from the merger of the ESO with the British College of Osteopathic Medicine. He holds professional affiliations with bodies such as General Osteopathic Council, and Institute of Analysts and Programmers

Philip joined the University of Greenwich in April 2024 as Academic Programme Lead for PE and Sports Science to apply his experience in research methods and rehabilitation. His interests in use of protective headgear in team sports, touch preference in physical settings, injury support networks, ACL tears in female athletes and ergonomic load in racing car technology are all areas for ongoing collaboration, development and enhancing student experience.
