Dr Yuliya Darmenova
Lecturer in Business
Dr Yuliya Darmenova is a Lecturer in Business at the Executive Business Centre of the University of Greenwich. She joined the university in 2023.
Yuliya achieved her PhD degree in 2020 from the University of Cambridge, with her dissertation focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from the diverse perspectives of stakeholder groups such as employees, customers, and society. Her study delved into the influence of cultural and historical contexts on the evolution, conceptual framework, and adoption of CSR within Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Kazakhstan.
Prior to her role at the University of Greenwich, Yuliya spent three years as a lecturer in Kazakhstan, teaching subjects such as Business Management, Business Planning, and Corporate Social Responsibility. In addition to her academic and research pursuits, Yuliya worked in corporate sector for more than 12 years in managerial roles at both operational and strategic levels. Her research interests are a natural extension of her combined academic and corporate background.

Research / Scholarly interests
Yuliya's primary area of research centres around the interplay between business and society, particularly with an emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility. Her research endeavours involve exploring the disparity between established theoretical constructs and actual CSR practices within local contexts. She investigates the influence of local, cultural, and historical factors on the trajectory of CSR development, conceptual frameworks, and their integration into Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
In her ongoing research, Yuliya is extending her interest in CSR to investigate the impact of social values on the configuration of CSR agendas. This current study builds upon her existing CSR focus, delving into how societal values play a pivotal role in shaping the priorities and strategies of CSR initiatives.
