Dr Samantha Chaperon is an Associate Professor in Tourism Management.  Samatha joined the University of Greenwich in 2009, after completing her PhD at Sheffield Hallam University.  Samantha’s areas of research interest and expertise are in: Political economy approaches to tourism development, particularly dependency theory and other post-colonial perspectives; tourism in islands and other peripheral areas; tourism policy and governance, and destination management.  Samantha is an experienced qualitative researcher, with a specialism in interview methodologies and thematic analysis.

Samantha has held a number of positions of responsibility within the University including Programme Leader for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Tourism and Events and Lead Tutor for the School of Management and Marketing.  She is on the Scientific Committee for the Observatory on Tourism in Island Economies, and serves as book reviews Editor for the International Journal of Islands Research. Previously, Samantha was Regional Vice President for the UK and Ireland for the International Tourism Studies Association.  She has held a number of external examiner positions for UK universities and regularly serves as a reviewer for international journals.
