Dr Michael Ify Chijuka is a highly accomplished academic with a distinguished career in banking and finance education, research, and community service. With a comprehensive educational background and a wealth of teaching experience, he has made significant contributions to academia, particularly in the areas of behavioural finance, investment analysis, and financial risk management.

Dr. Chijuka holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Benin, Nigeria, where he graduated as the Best Graduating Student. His doctoral dissertation focused on "Behavioural Biases and Investment Decisions in the Nigerian Capital Market," demonstrating his early interest in the psychological aspects of financial decision-making. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Finance from Coventry University, UK, where he graduated with Distinction, further solidifying his expertise in the field. His bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance, obtained from the University of Benin, Nigeria, was awarded with First Class Honours, reflecting his academic excellence from the outset of his career.

Dr. Chijuka is well-versed in designing and delivering high-quality lectures, seminars, and workshops at the university level. He has a talent for developing comprehensive course curricula enriched with real-world case studies and industry examples, ensuring students grasp theoretical concepts and their practical applications effectively. His courses cover a wide range of topics, including statistical analysis, behavioural finance, financial mathematics, econometrics, banking operations, investment analysis, financial risk management, financial economics, financial regulation, and ethics in banking and finance.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chijuka has held various academic positions, starting as an Assistant Lecturer, and progressing to his current position as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, London. He has taught numerous courses both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, not only in banking and finance but also in sustainable procurement and environmental standards. His teaching methods emphasize student engagement, critical thinking, and practical application, enabling students to develop a deep understanding of complex financial concepts.

Dr. Chijuka is actively engaged in research activities, contributing significantly to the advancement of knowledge in banking and finance. He has published extensively in reputable academic journals, focusing on diverse topics such as insurance penetration, Islamic banking, dividend policy, behavioural biases in investment decisions, debt burden, and economic development. His research demonstrates a keen interest in understanding the intricacies of financial markets and their impact on economic development.

Beyond academia, Dr. Chijuka is deeply committed to community service and volunteer work. He actively participates in initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, environmental conservation, community development, and youth empowerment. His involvement with orphanages and community organizations underscores his dedication to making a positive impact on society, particularly among marginalized groups.

  • Financial Market Efficiency: Exploring the efficiency of financial markets and the implications of market anomalies and inefficiencies on investor behaviour and portfolio management strategies.
  • Risk Management: Analysing methods for identifying, measuring, and mitigating financial risks faced by organizations, including credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk.
  • Islamic Finance: Investigating the principles and practices of Islamic banking and finance, including Sharia-compliant financial instruments, ethical investing, and the impact of Islamic finance on economic development.
  • Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management: Studying asset valuation techniques, portfolio optimization strategies, and the performance of financial assets in various market conditions.
