The Return to Practice for Nurses Programme is validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) UK. This programme is to enable qualified nurses who's registration has lapsed to re-register on the professional register in adult, mental health, learning disability or children's nursing.
Start month
We run the programme once a year commencing in January.
Pre-requisites
- You must be a qualified nurse whose registration has lapsed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) UK after a career break of 3 years or more
or - Or a qualified nurses who has not met the PREP (practice) standard of completing the minimum of 450 hours of practice during the three years prior to renewal of registration.
Funding
A bursary is attached to this programme. Additionally, students will not be required to pay tuition fees.
Partnership
The University of Greenwich is working in partnership with NHS Trusts /Healthcare organisations to provide opportunities for students to gain clinical experience in order for them to achieve their competencies.
Application and selection process
Applicants for this programme will be required to demonstrate that they have good health and good character on entry to the programme and for continued participation during the programme. This will be determined by a health screening, DBS check, and provision of suitable references.
Applicants must complete a University of Greenwich CPD application form. The selection process will include literacy and numeracy tests and a collaborative interview by University of Greenwich lecturers and senior staff from partner NHS Trusts / Healthcare organisations.
Mode of study, course structure and assessment
The mode of study is part-time and is structured over one term. Students will study at Level 6 with 30 credits on successful completion of the course. Students will attend 15 study days (3 blocks of 5 study days) plus supervised practice hours in clinical placements at their local NHS Trusts / Healthcare organisations.
At the end of the programme students will submit an essay on clinical practice and complete a Practice Assessment Document having being assessed in clinical practice by a designated mentor and sign-off mentor. Students will evidence progression and achievement through portfolio development.
