From February 2018, the Tourism Research Centre at the University of Greenwich will host the new London office for the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA). The partnership will strengthen the university's international links, enable it to develop its research networks and attract further research students for its tourism programmes.
The University of Greenwich established the Tourism Research Centre just under two years ago with an interdisciplinary membership with backgrounds in geography, political economy, entrepreneurship and environmental sciences, drawn from across the business school and other faculties. It focuses on tourism policy, development and management of tourism destinations and economic development.
Current research work includes the SHARE project, a £1.1 million initiative funded by the Interreg Europe programme. This four-year international project has partners in the UK, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Romania and Croatia. It will look at the challenges faced by the sustainable management of heritage tourism destinations.
Dr Nikki MacLeod, director of the Tourism Research Centre said: "As Director of the Tourism Research Centre (TRC) I am delighted that we are hosting the new ITSA office. The TRC is a newly established Research Centre with a focus on tourism policy, the development and management of tourist destinations, and economic development. We are confident that our relationship with ITSA will enrich our research as it strengthens our international links, extends our research networks and attracts research students."
