Let’s Talk Vegan: A relaxed and informal discussion with two vegans, and a vegetarian open to vegan persuasion

23rd Feb 2021 3pm - 4pm

This activity takes place online

For this session we are going discuss the delights and challenges of eating a plant based/vegan diet. The number of people who eat vegan diets has grown significantly in the last few years. Veganuary is now an annual diary fixture encouraging people to drop the meat and dairy and explore plant based alternatives and to also take up other changes in their lifestyles. The growth of people choosing vegan diets has meant that vegan alternatives are now commonplace and easily available and in most supermarkets and increasingly in local convenience stores. People have their own reasons for making this change, some very much focused on avoiding exploitation of animals in any form, others may have a strong primary desire to lower their environmental footprints or enjoy a healthier diet.

This session lead by third year Marketing Management students Federica Prestigiacomo, will bring together Henry Setter, Greenwich Students’ Union’s Democracy and Engagement Manager (and ex GSU President) and Simon Goldsmith, UoG’s Head of Sustainable Development and someone who could be persuaded to make the next step from being a vegetarian.

This will be an informal discussion to explore the reasons why the panel have given up meat and dairy, what benefits they have found and what challenges they may have faced. The relaxed and informal  conversations will explore the topic and, we hope encourage attendees to eat more plant based alternatives and even go 100% vegan.
