Simon Rudland - Food retail - the need to be simultaneously lean and agile.
Learn about Simon:

I began my career at Sainsbury's on their graduate programme, before moving to Waitrose where I spent 11 years of my career, initially in store management positions, and then for the last 4 years as Head of Retail Operations.
In 2018 I moved over to the leisure industry as a Director at Virgin Active UK, before returning to the world of food in October 2020 as Operations Director at Macknade, where I am actively building operational models to enable the company to grow profitably.
About the lecture:
I will discuss the current landscape and developmental trends in food retail. The way in which margins are being squeezed by a number of different factors and the subsequent drive for operational efficiency. This is then counterbalanced by ever changing customer needs, driven by digitalisation (e-commerce) and globalisation, and manifesting as an ever increasing demand for product fulfilment 'whenever, wherever and however'.
