As an experienced leader, board director, owner/manager, qualified executive coach, coaching supervisor and Non-Executive Director/Trustee, Julia combines national policy level access and thinking with a deep understanding of specific culture issues and their solutions. Julia’s expertise lies in offering advice and support on board, leadership and organisational development, system leadership, stakeholder engagement, strategy making and governance.

Following 20 years in executive director of HR/workforce roles in healthcare/charity sectors at local, system, regional and national level, Julia now has a portfolio of consultancy, NED/Trustee, teaching and coaching roles. Julia is the Managing Director of Zenon Consulting, a boutique people management and development consultancy, Non-Executive Director at the Liaison Group, Founder and Board member of the London HPMA (Healthcare People Management Association) Academy and Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Greenwich.
With an MSc in Strategic HR management and organisational change and as an alumnus of Cranfield’s Business Growth Programme for SME owner/managers, Julia enjoys developing herself and others. Julia is a L7 qualified, experienced Executive Coach and Executive Coaching Supervisor.
Julia’s coaching philosophy supports clients to handle and navigate ambiguity, lead and facilitate in a complex system, map and manage their relationships and explore and reflect on their leadership or coaching practice. Julia does this by creating an open and trusting environment, offering time and space for discussion and reflection. She is a respectful, challenging, stretching and facilitating coach and coaching supervisor who uses visualisation and other creative exercises, and practices as a mindful, compassionate and astute coach and coaching supervisor, reflecting back and enabling clients to explore and develop on their journey. Julia is currently on her APECS accreditation journey as Master Practitioner Coach.
Her key areas of teaching and design are consultancy, coaching, strategic HRM, organisational change, development, politics and leadership and she teaches at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive levels.
Julia is also a qualified swimming teacher and Day Skipper (RYA) and sailed for many years. She completed her first Trans-Atlantic sailing on a 42-foot yacht as Co-skipper in 2023.
Julia has recently completed her first transatlantic sail on their 42 foot yacht with her husband as co-skipper and one friend as crew.
Julia will share her story on her journey developing as a sailor and why she decided to sail across the Atlantic and what happened. She will reflect on the challenges faced in her journey and the trans-Atlantic trip focussing on leadership, co-skippering, team work, problem solving, decision making in the face of adversity - and big waves!
