Now in its 8th year, the BME Early Career Researchers (ECR) conference, founded by Dr. Bernadine Idowu, aims to celebrate the successes of BME ECR and PGR students.

The University of Greenwich and the University of West London are proud to present the 8th BME Early Career Researchers' (ECR) conference, a landmark event celebrating the extraordinary achievements of BME scholars.

On Friday, 5 July, 2024, the historic Queen Anne Building at the University of Greenwich will become a hub of inspiration and empowerment, where the theme ‘Championing the Successes of BME ECRs’ will take centre stage.  The conference aims to showcase the successes of BME ECR and Postgraduate Researchers, in addition to providing a space for networking, and resources to enable ECRs to progress and remain in academia, as we think such talent needs to be nurtured!

This conference is for all early career researchers and postgraduate researchers. This is a hybrid event.

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable keynote address by the esteemed Professor Marcia Wilson, a trailblazer in academic leadership and a champion for equity and inclusivity. As the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience at London Metropolitan University, Professor Wilson's insights are certain to ignite your passion and motivate you to reach new heights.

Professor Marcia Wilson is a multiple award-winning academic leader and researcher who has pioneered programmes to address inequalities to improve the staff and student experience in the education sector. Her work has been used by Universities UK (UUK) in their initiatives aimed at tackling racism and she was a member of the Advisory group focusing on producing guidance for Tackling Racial Harassment in HE. Marcia has been recognised as a national Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lead in the ‘d&i Leaders Global Benchmarking Survey’ in 2021 and 2023.

This will be an immersive conference experience, where engaging panel discussions with students and staff will illuminate their academic journeys. Prepare to participate actively, asking questions and accessing invaluable knowledge for ongoing success.

The day will culminate in a vibrant networking session, providing opportunities to establish connections and explore collaborations as a BME Early Career Researcher.
