Regime of Shadows

Project aim

Create an engaging and imaginative game and immersive experience.

Project outline

A first-person, souls-like game in which you combine different elements to create elemental reactions.

Each element has its own overarching theme:

  • fire for area of effect damage
  • ice/water for mana recovery
  • electric for high single-target damage

This gives the player the choice of how they want to approach each battle and challenges them to think quickly on their feet.

The game also greatly rewards high-risk, high-reward playstyles with mechanics such as increasing damage dealt based on your missing health, encouraging skilled players to remain on the brink of death to maximise their damage.

I was praised for creating a well-rounded game whilst displaying excellent programming skills in C++ including writing clean and logically structured code with a great focus on optimisation.

In addition to dragons, highlights of this project include a custom, modular ability system, shaders and post-processing as well as dynamic audio which adapts based on gameplay.
