To help manage our reputation, we ask staff and students to follow our policies.
Opening an account for your service/team
To protect our brand and to prevent multiple accounts from the wider university being opened where it is not appropriate, we ask that you check with the social media team before starting a dedicated account for your area.
Overall, staff are encouraged to use the university's central channels to share their content and promote their work. However, if you believe your department needs its own account, please complete this online form:

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
How do I create assets to promote events etc.?
We use Canva to create assets. Contact the social media team who will happily show you how Canva works and how you can use this tool to create on-brand assets for yourself.
Do we use Hootsuite?
We don’t use Hootsuite; however, we do use Orlo, another social media scheduling tool.
Can I be added to the University of Greenwich's scheduling system?
The social media team us Orlo as our scheduling system. If your position means you oversee content for social media regularly please get in touch with the social media team to check if we can add you.
Please note: the university pays per license. Adding additional profiles to the system is subject to availability/budget. Once added, training will be provided.
How do I deal with negative comments?
If you come across a negative comment and are not sure how to deal with it or you’re not sure it’s appropriate to remove the comment please get in touch with the social media team as we have a close link with the communications team and are trained to deal with these issues. To avoid potential reputational damage, it is always best to run the comment and situation past the central team.
I want the central social media team to post about something. What’s the best way to do this?
The central social media channels work to a careful schedule, however with enough notice the social media team is happy to support where it can. To avoid disappointment please give the team plenty of notice ahead of your event, or intended publish date. The team will require a minimum of 2 weeks' notice before you require your post to be published.
Unfortunately, some posts might not be appropriate for the central channels, but the team will always advise on where best to host your content.
What do I need to provide with my post?
Once the social media team has approved your post to feature on the central channels, and notice has been given, you will need to provide a short line of copy, a link to signpost where people the audience can find out more information, and the digital asset (video or photo) to accompany the post.
I need a video uploaded to YouTube/Vimeo, how do I do this?
Vimeo and YouTube are managed by the content and brand team. Please create a request on BrandCentre to have the videos uploaded. If you don't have access to BrandCentre, email your request to content@gre.ac.uk.
The video will be uploaded pending approval.
You will also need to provide a title and description for your video as well as a SRT file with the captions.
