For the 2021-2022 academic year, the university expects to operate campus working, with teaching and student support services delivered, wherever possible, face to face while continuing to recognise that individual circumstances differ.
The university’s intention is to be a modern flexible employer, allowing staff to work flexibly but to do so in a way that is responsive to university needs, and continues to keep the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and students a priority.
We have updated our Working Principles and Guidelines which will support us to manage this in a fair and consistent way.
We have assessed the equality impact of these principles, which we will trial with the intention of incorporating improvements and keep them under review to help us move successfully towards future principles of hybrid working* as normal practice from January 2022.
We will continue to follow the Government’s guidance and we are planning a phased approach for a greater number of staff returning to campus over the summer. We have updated our Covid Safe Planning Guidance and we all should continue to follow our university guidance.
Please discuss arrangements for a phased return to on campus working with your manager. We have updated the Covid Vulnerability Questionnaire and it remains an important tool for you and your manager. The results should be interpreted using the Manager’s Guide to Assessing Vulnerability, which takes into account an individual’s vaccination status, the nature of their work and the current Covid infection rate where you work.
Please note: These principles and guidelines do not affect London Weighting.
Guidance for managers
Guidance for managers has been published on the Manager’s Toolkit Teams Site – if you do not have access to this please contact Internal Communications.
* Hybrid working is a relatively new term. It describes a form of flexible working where an employee will consider their work location and another location such as their home as their usual places of work.
