People and Planet audit evidence of our sustainability progress annually and this year we were joint 1st place in the UK for both Sustainable Food and our Auditing & Environmental Management Systems work. We were also Joint 3rd place in the UK for Carbon Reduction illustrating the progress we have made to reduce our carbon footprint since the 2005 baseline.
Other areas where we did well included scoring 90% for:
- our Sustainability Policy and Strategy
- our Engagement work
- our Carbon Reduction progress.
We also scored 89% for our Education for Sustainable Development work.
This is all highly commendable and very much down to the hard work and determination that our staff and students show to help us deliver sustainability across all we do. The university therefore would like to thank you all for helping us do so well.
We know that we can improve so we will look for everyone to contribute. Small changes such as recycling correctly in halls and on campus and saving energy at work can make a huge difference if we all do what we can. We also ask our students and staff to join Green Rewards and if a staff member our Green Champions Network.
The Sustainable Development Unit is working with colleagues across the university to provide further evidence illustrating our commitment to sustainability which will be reflected in future People and Planet league tables.
