Architecture lecturer Eric Wong from the School of Design was approached personally by director Mamoru Hosada for his new film, Belle.
Eric said: “I grew up watching Mamoru Hosoda’s work as a child. From Digimon the movie in 2001, everything in between which includes the Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children and the Boy and the Beast through to Mirai in 2018.
“My involvement included designing the whole virtual city for the film, stadium, park, app design, app interface, environment, colour developments and most aspects surrounding the virtual world called U.”
Director Mamoru Hosoda has teamed up with Uniqlo to produce a line of graphic T-shirts called “Mamoru Hosoda Animation Works UT.” The new offering from UNIQLO will include six graphic t-shirts. Three designs celebrate Hosada’s latest upcoming film, Belle. The three other prints highlight Mamoru’s most popular films: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and The Boy and the Beast. The collection features key protagonists in Hosada’s film.
Eric said: “It has been a dream come true to work on the film and an amazing opportunity to see the film premiere there. If the opportunity arises, undoubtedly it would be amazing to do more work like this in the future.”
