The event followed an afternoon seminar presented to first year post-grad and final year undergrad Landscape Architecture students by Paul Traynor, who leads Light Bureau. Earlier in November, Light Bureau won the Dezeen Award for ‘Architectural lighting design of the year’, for their interior and exterior lighting concept at Maggie’s Centre in Leeds.
The workshop was a practical show-and-tell of how lighting can be used to create an attractive night-time outdoor environment. The Light Bureau design team were on hand to demonstrate the effects that can be achieved with the correct hardware and knowledge, and to provide practical guidance to the students and invited guests on creative use of exterior lighting.
Royal Parks Greenwich provided the venue, the White House CafĂ© and gardens, just inside the St Mary’s Gate entrance to Greenwich Park. Demonstration lighting hardware was provided by iGuzzini, Stoane Lighting, LightGraphix and Wibre.
The workshop convened at 5.30pm and continued with an opportunity to discuss design and fittings with the lighting designers.
Duncan Goodwin, Senior Lecturer- Landscape Technical Coordinator and BA Programme Leader, said:
“Practical events like this are such an incredibly important element within our Landscape Architecture programmes at the University of Greenwich: they provide hands-on experience of the products and systems that students will be specifying as Landscape Architects; they also provide an opportunity for our students to develop links with practising Landscape Architects and manufacturers within the industry.
We are incredibly grateful to Light Bureau, the Royal Parks, iGuzzini, Stoane Lighting, LightGraphix, Wibre and all who attended, for supporting this event and our students.”
