The rankings have been published by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, an independent higher education intelligence organisation also known as The Academic Ranking of World Universities, since 2009.
Wenjie Cai, Associate Professor in Tourism at The University of Greenwich said:
“ShanghaiRanking is recognised as one of the three most influential rankings worldwide. The Top 50 ranking shows our exceptional research performance in this subject area and is aligned with our university’s 2030 impactful research sub-strategy.”
Ranking at number 46 out of 300, this year The University of Greenwich was one of just five British universities to be featured in the top 50 for the subject of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Nikki Macleod, the Director of Tourism and Marketing Research Centre says:
“We are a relatively new research centre, so I am both delighted and proud that we have been recognised in the prestigious Shanghai ranking. This is such a boost for our inspiring and dedicated team of researchers and demonstrates the importance that the University of Greenwich places on research and its impact on society.”
A variety of academic measures and data from third parties was used to assess the universities including level of research output, level of research influence, degree of international collaboration, quality of research and number of international academic awards. Of these indicators, Greenwich scored highest on research influence with 93.9% and on international collaboration with 90.3%.
