This month’s digest contains no spoilers – but please read on, as it includes opportunities to register for the next set of webinars.
Next scheduled Mentimeter Workshops
Did you know that we offer basic and advanced online workshops at least once per term? That’s right! The last ones in preparation for Term 2 were held December 16, but fear not – we will run another set February 22. You can find more information and the option to register for the Basic Workshop HERE and for the Advanced Workshop HERE.
The profanity filter is your friend!
The last thing you would want when engaging your audience with that new and fun Menti you prepared is that one person trying to anonymously torpedo your efforts. There’s a way to prevent that – the profanity filter which now also works with Word Clouds and Open Ended questions. You can even set it to other languages!
Find more on how to enable the profanity filter HERE, as well as its current limitations.
Pro-tip: To avoid profanity in the comment or Q&A function of Mentimeter – use the Teams chat instead. I personally only activate Mentimeter comments and/or Q&A if I use Mentimeter at conferences.
Learn how to be inclusive with Mentimeter
As educators, we know that inclusivity promotes diversity and equity in our students’ education, ensuring that everybody no matter their background or identity feels valued and respected in and outside the classroom. Mentimeter Academy offers a free, self-paced online course that “provides university-level educators with strategies to further a sense of belonging in the classroom”. It takes 60 minutes and believe me – an hour well spent!
Enrol HERE to the “Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Engaging All Students” course.
Slide type of the month: Segmentation
Not a slide type but more of a feature, you can use segmentation across several multiple choice questions to show results based on what your participants have voted for on a previous question. For example, you could ask your students in an ice breaker how they’re feeling today, and in a follow-up question what their favourite pet is (the answer might surprise you!). Or ask a professional audience what department they work in and in a later question what animal they prefer.
Of course, you can use it for more serious questions, too! Have a look, it’s a handy feature indeed!
Read more about the Segmentation of Votes feature HERE.
You can also watch a short YouTube video HERE.
