That’s a RAP

This summer we launched the final version of the Race Action Plan. Now we look forward to bringing the plan into action with your support

Thank you to all who attended the Race Action Plan launches in person and online. We were so happy to celebrate the finalised version of the plan with you at both the Greenwich and Medway campuses. It was fantastic to see so many of our colleagues and celebrate the culmination of 18 months of co-created work.

When we launched the plan, we asked our colleagues to:

Show up, by listening to your BAME staff and students and gain an understanding of their lived experiences and the barriers they face by giving them a platform to speak in a safe space.

Step up and be accountable in promoting racial equity at the University of Greenwich for both students and staff.

Speak out and challenge institutional structures in terms of our policies, processes and practices that causes racial disparity. Be vocal, visible, transparent and authentic in facilitating long term change for our BAME community.

We also asked our students to:

Show up and be present and participate in student societies, staff networks and the university-wide events.

Step up by being brave by being an ally, upstander and challenge when something isn’t right.

Speak out and be heard by using your voice as an individual or group to influence cultural change and to make the university a great place for you, for others and for those who will join us in the future.

The Race Action Plan

The actions within the plan show the concrete measures the university is taking to support BAME staff and students and ensuring there is equity for all.

Now that the finalised plan is launched and in the public domain, we will be working on turning those objectives into actions and delivering the impact that we would like to see at the university to enhance a more inclusive culture and increase belongingness for our staff and students.

We received positive responses from those of you who attended our events and attended the Leadership forum to gain further insights and feedback to the next steps we need to work on. Part of this included requests for further discussions regarding the Race Action Plan and are happy to confirm that we will be arranging Roadshow events from September to December for staff and students to engage at faculty and directorate levels. We will also showcase the plan and the goals over the next twelve months as the university commences work on the short-term goals and delivering on the initiatives within the Race Action Plan. We will work collaboratively with leaders, staff and students and assure and monitor our delivery model.
