Teaching and Learning: Guidance for 2021/22

TLDRoffon

We have updated our teaching and learning guidance to help us plan our teaching, resources and timetabling.

Our Adjusting to Blended Learning Environment guidance and resources have been updated for 2021/22  following our updated working principles and guidance previously shared.

We have also updated the Adjusting to the Blended Learning Environment Moodle page which provides self-access resources that you can use at any time.  You can also find out more about our Hyflex spaces on campus and the extended IT Service Desk times to support you during teaching weeks in this Teaching & Learning spaces update.

New Term Guidance

Our New Term Principles outline our guiding principles for the new term, which provide starting points to help us plan our teaching, resources and timetabling. With a focus on delivering our programmes on-campus, the guidance also allows for participation of any students who cannot come on to campus and opportunities for ‘catch up’ for any missed sessions.

Session Capture

By allowing students to revisit our sessions to make notes, revise and/or recap sections that they found difficult, session recordings enhance the student learning experience and improve inclusivity. Recordings may also be used by students who were unable to make the original session due to social isolation, illness, caring responsibilities or other reasons to support catch-up, thereby supporting our vision of Education Without Boundaries.

Our Lecture Capture Guidance for 2021/22 sets out the sessions we anticipate being recorded and provides support for how to do so. Automatic lecture capture will not be activated during Term 1, so don’t forget to manually record your sessions when teaching on campus.

Remember, recorded lectures will only be shared with students attached to your Moodle course and will be deleted after 1 academic year, unless the lecturer takes action to extend its availability.

Closing the BAME Awarding Gap: Resources for Staff

As part of the University project to close the ‘BAME Awarding Gap’ and work towards decolonising the curriculum, we have put together a set of self-guided resources on Moodle for your professional development and learning in this area. The page contains plenty to watch and read, but also places for you to reflect and suggest your own ideas for materials and examples of good practice.

You can enrol in the Awarding Gap course - for any queries, please contact Emma Kennedy.
