Midwifery craft knowledge
Gina’s core area of academic interest is midwifery craft knowledge. She is currently exploring the embodied expertise of senior midwives. She is also involved in simulation-based education and is involved in research projects using virtual reality, for example, use of digital patients in perinatal mental health and end of life care.
Prior to working at the University of Greenwich, Gina was the Infant Feeding Lead Midwife at a local NHS Trust, which involved working closely with the public health department and UNICEF. The Trust was awarded BFI (Baby-Friendly) Stage 3 accreditation. The promotion of breastfeeding is obviously important for both health and environmental reasons.
Discussions are ongoing related to environmentally friendly PPE and use of disposable nappies in NHS hospitals.
