What is a Discovery Day?
In November, we launched our first instalment of ‘Discovery Days’, a half-day event, offering undergraduate students the chance to visit employers on-site, take part in a range of activities and get a glimpse into their desired industry.
We visited 6 local and international employers - Brown’s Hotel, Charlton Athletic, Gemini Freight, Google, JLL, and KMTV.
Most Discovery Days were structured in a similar format, with introductory presentations, Q&A sessions, networking opportunities, office tours and hands-on activities, allowing students to have personal interactions with employees and get unique access into their day-to-day operations. We intentionally partnered with employers in different industries to ensure that students were able to have multiple experiences and paint a better picture of their future career path.
What were the highlights?
It was particularly special to hear from a few of our Alumni who now work at Gemini Freight and Google. Students were very interested to hear about their career journey, receive advice and above all, feel inspired and reassured that they can be successful too.
Additional highlights include uncovering the history of Brown’s Hotel, having the unique opportunity to visit an empty Charlton Athletic stadium and changing room, hearing from Alumni at Gemini Freight, visiting Google’s state-of-the-art office, speed networking at JLL, and working on-the-job as a television presenter at KMTV.
