Rethinking Economics Greenwich Conference 2023

This exciting event will be a fantastic day of learning and discussing critical economic issues. The event also celebrates the pluralist approach to teaching at the University of Greenwich. This conference is an exciting opportunity to learn about economics and Rethinking Economics.

I am proud that the University of Greenwich is one of the universities in the UK that teach economics pluralistically. This blog will briefly explain why learning economics in a pluralist institution has been important for my education in economics, highlighting our highly anticipated conference on 25 February.

Rethinking Economics at the University of Greenwich

Greenwich has been a cornerstone in my academic journey, from my early days as a curious and passionate undergraduate to today being a master’s student studying economics. Meetings throughout my undergraduate experience allowed me to learn from students who are my seniors, discuss relevant economic issues and receive constant well-informed book recommendations. Understanding economics connected me to like-minded individuals and mentors, allowing me to think critically about economics as a discipline.

Now, as a master’s student, I am part of the committee that allows me to contribute to current economic debates. This leadership role within society has been rewarding. To actively promote pluralism by organising engaging seminars for the students at Greenwich while giving back to the student community.

Greenwich’s pluralist teaching philosophy has allowed the society to flourish as a community which encourages critical thinking and diversity in the economics we learn in the classroom. It has provided the society with mentors who offer support and guidance in the events we hold and the promotion of our events. The combination of robust pluralist teaching and a strong society led to the brilliant conference.

This year has been focused on seminars on various economic issues aimed at undergraduate students. This meant collaborating with academics from universities in London and think tanks.
