The newly-painted permanent crossing is at the Avery Hill campus.

Helen Pierce, Head of Estates and Facilities operations at the University of Greenwich said, “The idea emerged following the wonderful Pride themed chalked crossing that appeared overnight in Greenwich in 2020. We really loved the idea and started talking about what we could do for the following year on our sites, in addition to the flags.”Crossing

“We decided to position the crossing at the front of the campus at Avery Hill to welcome all on to site and we partnered with our colleagues at support services providers Antac who kindly undertook the works free of charge. We were proud to be able to base the design on the Progress Pride flag, which incorporates a forward-moving five-coloured chevron on top of the popular six-coloured rainbow pride flag.”

David Hockham – Chair of the LGBT+ Staff community said “I’m delighted that the University of Greenwich has taken such a proactive approach to equality, diversity and equality, placing it at the heart of our 2030 strategic plan.  Outward signs such as this go hand in hand with the positive leadership and commitment to change which this university now proudly has.”

The crossing formed part of the university’s stonewall submission and directly ties into the 2030 strategy pillar of inclusivity and culture.
