An update on our application for the Race Equality Charter (REC)

TLDRoffon

We have now formally started our accreditation process for the REC. We will need your help as we gather data and insights to support our submission planned for Autumn 2025.

Race Equality Charter logo We will be starting the University's process to apply for the Bronze Accreditation for the Race Equality Charter (REC).

Obtaining recognition is a key outcome for us to deliver the People Strategy Change for the University we seek, and it is supported by the Race Action Plan to ensure we deliver this.

About the REC

The REC aims to improve the representation, progression and success of minority ethnic staff and students within higher education.

Our Vice-Chancellor Jane Harrington has written a letter endorsing acceptance of the Race Equality Charter principles and the support, commitment and investment required from the university for a successful submission process.

Shirley Joseph, Race Equality Charter Project Manager, Jas Seehra-Pearce, EDI Race Business Partner and Gedminte Mikulenaite from the Vice-Chancellor's Office have had a variety of conversations with staff at Advance HE over the last few months regarding our membership and learning about the changes they plan within the accreditation process next year to ensure that this is the right time for us to start the process.

What's next?

We will need your help as we gather data and insights to support our submission planned for Autumn 2025.

The Race Equality Charter will give the university external recognition, but we wanted to assure you all that the Race Action Plan will continue to progress to drive our change and are both of equal importance.
