One Voice, One University: Students using their words to celebrate and thank our Academic staff #3

TLDRoffon

The quotes, taken from last year's Student Led Teaching Award nominations, show show the high regard our students have for our academic community, and we think that's something to celebrate.

We have lots of quotes* from our students, so we'll share them in a series of posts over the next few weeks.

The Student Led Teaching Awards are a student led celebration of teaching excellence and academic quality at our university.  They celebrate the best experiences students have at university and acknowledge the excellent practice of lecturers and staff across the university.

Nominations for this year's awards are open - head over to the GSU site to find out more about the categories and how students can submit their nominations.

From my first day, Dr Agnieszka Herdan has pushed me to be the best I could, not only in employability but as a student. Agnieszka helped me to mature into the motivated and driven student I am today and also helped me to secure a placement. She is a great mentor and I hope this reaches Agnieszka, as she deserves to hear this praise.

I have never met such a helpful person as Prof Andres Coca-Stefaniak. I can ask him about everything related to my studies and assignments, and he guided us through sustainable tourism with a harmony and huge passion.

Diluk Rathnayak is inspirational, fun and full of knowledge. I look forward to his tutorials every week. He has made everyone feel included and safe which has led to a very active learning environment.

Emma Gates is fantastic, she is very helpful and gives very detailed explanations, and genuinely cares. She always demonstrates her love and depth of knowledge for marketing and is always there to help.

Heather Shekede has made herself available to everyone in the cohort and made a huge effort to support us over our placements. She is never without a smile and has been so great to talk to about everything. This year has been so difficult for us being in placement at an uncertain and scary time, but no matter what I knew that I could contact Heather. This support has made all the difference to myself and other students.

Jackie Yaskey is the best! She believes in us as a cohort. Her knowledge and patience is effortless. Jackie is the best and she deserves to know this! We love her.

Sometimes it feels like Jude Ibe is like super man, he is able to resolve anything and everything at any level. He has shown great humanity in supporting students - Jude is a great person and a true leader.

Lee Jagodzinski put on incredible simulation sessions safely to help facilitate our learning around nursing the acutely ill/injured child. The simulation sessions he put on were incredible for my confidence and development as a future nurse. He is infectiously passionate about this topic and challenged my thought processes in a constructive way. Thank you it helped me tremendously in my placement.

Prof Jeremy Everett is constantly helpful regarding anything, including academic and personal matters. He keeps in touch on a regular basis and gives useful advice.

Dr Lauren Pecorino is quite honestly the best lecturer I have ever had. Her passion for her subject is evident throughout her teaching and she has made what would typically be really hard and complicated subjects easy to digest and understand. The way she has been teaching online has been great, she is extremely patient with everyone in her classes and answers every question with enthusiasm. She has helped me to develop a keen interest in her subjects that I am now considering career options when I leave university based on them.

Michael Rivett - best demonstrator on campus. So kind and so understanding. His positivity never changed over the three years - he's always calm and supportive.

Vladimir Gubala is an amazing tutor who really inspires all his fellow tutees. He  has a positive attitude, is easily accessible to talk to and is really there to support his students.

Dr John Morton has continued to inspire third year students to go on to do postgraduate studies. The difference with John is that rather than merely mentioning it, he involves himself within those students that want to pursue higher education and advises them effectively.  He has a raging passion to help his students achieve the best and beyond their best, and has inspired many to work to their best potential and to apply for postgraduate education.

Dr Louise Hewitt is overall an inspiration. She is teaching and taking care of the Innocence Project London. She engages very well with all students and it is always there to help.

This is my first SLTA nomination and I'm not sure where to begin with the praise. Dr Michael Talbot has been absolutely incredible in supporting me as a student, he has helped me draw up coping mechanisms and is so patient when repeating the same reassurances every time. I cannot thank him enough. I will forever be grateful to him long, long, after I have left Greenwich.

Dr Sarah Ann Liszka has been incredibly supportive and responsive throughout my 3 years at  Greenwich. The quality of teaching that she provides is excellent and she shows a real passion for her work. She has been consistently of a high standard through normal academic years, as well as the Covid-19-altered academic year.

On behalf of our students, thank you.
