We regularly review our transport running costs to ensure we can maintain the best service for our community. The ticket prices for the Medway bus service have remained the same since 2014-15. Since then, we have expanded the service significantly offering many more departure times, and costs have increased substantially, particularly in the last year. We have therefore decided to apply a small increase to ticket prices which will come into effect from 1 August 2023. (see table below for new ticket prices).
Whilst there is a charge applied to the Medway bus service, the income raised from ticket sales accounts for less than half the cost of running this service. The university will continue to pay the majority of the service costs to subsidise users therefore keeping the passenger fare increase to around 5%. The charges are made to reflect that this is most commonly used as a commuter service.
