In accordance with UUK’s Concordat to Support Research Integrity, we maintain procedures for ensuring that allegations of research misconduct can be properly investigated and addressed. Research misconduct can include fabrication; falsification; plagiarism; failure to meet legal, ethical or professional obligations; and misrepresentation of data, involvement, interests, qualifications and publication history.
How allegations are investigated depends on the whether the individual concerned is a student or staff member:
- Following amendments approved by the Academic Council in 2020/21, allegations of research misconduct against undergraduate and taught postgraduate students are now investigated under the Assessment Misconduct Procedure;
- Allegations against postgraduate research students are investigated under the Postgraduate Student Research Misconduct Procedure;
- Allegations against staff are investigated under the Procedure for Investigating Research Misconduct.
Further details are provided in the Research Ethics Policy. For questions relating to research misconduct, please contact Peter Garrod, University Secretary.
