The university is committed to reducing its waste created, and one barrier to our recycling goals is the high-level usage of disposable containers. In pre-covid times, an average of 250,000 disposable cups are sold at the university outlets per year.

The university has introduced a fee on all disposable cups in September 2023 to help reduce our landfill waste. Students and staff are encouraged to drink in or use their own reusable cups.

To further reduce waste and facilitate students and staff to use reusables, we are trialling Cauli, a reusable cup and food box loan scheme from 6 November at the Galley Café in Dreadnought Building and Stockwell Street Café.

Where will the trial be?

At the Galley Café in Dreadnought Building and Stockwell Street Café, both in Greenwich campus.

How does it work?

To borrow a CauliBox or CauliCup, you will need to download the Cauli app.

You will need to add your payment card details. Cauli containers are free to use and card details are required to ensure reusable containers are returned. No money will be taken unless you fail to return the container within 7 days of borrowing.
