Description automatically generatedThe University of Greenwich is proud to be part of National Apprenticeship Week – a week-long celebration that shines a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

A Greenwich education brings people together from many walks of life and provides them with the skills that employers value and the confidence to achieve extraordinary things. It transforms lives and enables people to realise dreams that might once have seemed almost impossible. With us, people can achieve their ambitious because of, rather than despite, their backgrounds: we call this Education without Boundaries.

It's possible because the experience we provide every apprentice is world-class, and reflects the gold-standard teaching, student experience, and opportunities we provide.

A recent government report reveals that 80% of employers have reported improved retention rates due to hiring apprentices. Additionally, two-thirds of apprentices remain with their employer, who trained and supported them through their apprenticeship.

At Greenwich, high-quality apprenticeships deliver an achievement rate of 75% – far above the national average. Businesses can be sure that by partnering with Greenwich, they will be developing people with the skills, experience and knowledge that will help support them in the years to come.

The university’s experience in apprenticeships covers a wide breadth of specialisms including healthcare, construction, engineering and science. They were developed with industry partners to create programmes that meet the needs of the sector, the local community, and economy.

Debbie Bryant, Nurse Associate, Medway Community Healthcare says “I transformed my nursing career with a degree apprenticeship–aged 58. It’s never too late to change your life with a degree apprenticeship at the University of Greenwich.”

Charlie Bishop, Construction Apprentice says “I wanted to get out into the construction industry. I'm quite a hands-on learner, so by doing a degree apprenticeship you get the best of both worlds. You’re learning on the job daily, and you also get a degree qualification. It’s a great way to progress your career.”

Adult Nursing Apprentice Jai Mohamed says “The University of Greenwich has equipped me with the knowledge and skills through lectures and especially the simulations which are really helpful in putting my knowledge to practice, thus increasing my confidence at work.”

Gianina Harvey-Brewin, Associate Director, Employability and Apprenticeships · University of Greenwich says “We are delighted to celebrating National Apprenticeships Week at the University of Greenwich. We’ve seen the success of apprenticeships being felt across the UK economy and I feel proud that we are training the nation’s workforce to help meet the needs of many sectors and industry. I am looking forward to attending the events we have planned for the week.”
