We are excited to share successes from across the university as part of our Great things at Greenwich initiative.
This week, we are showcasing the achievement of School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences’ graduate Urmi Shah, who came 2nd place in the Society for Location Analysis (SLA) Masters Award category 2022.
Urmi Shah recently graduated (MSc with distinction) from the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences.
Her MSc project entitled "Optimal Pedestrian Route Mapping based in Subjective Preferences" won 2nd place in the SLA (Society for Location Analysis) Masters Award. The MSc project was supervised by Dr. Jia Wang.
“My degree as a postgraduate student at the University of Greenwich was centered on software development and data science solutions, including my dissertation on Geographical Information System. I am particularly interested in the use of data science solutions to network planning challenges. I am currently working as a data engineer at Geolytix, a retail location planning consultancy.” - Urmi Shah
Aimed at both urban planners and navigation application developers, Urmi's project provides guidance on how to better understand pedestrians' walking needs by providing tailored navigation routes that include features from pavement facilities, walking space as well as pedestrian profiles.
This is the first time that students from Greenwich have competed in the SLA award, alongside students from UCL, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle.
