The Digital Shark Expo brought together tech-minded staff, students and future students with employers and professionals in the tech industry.

The expo was an excellent opportunity for students to meet like-minded people, engage with industry professionals, and boost their tech knowledge and employability skills. Student presenters were able to practice their presentational and self-marketing skills through exhibiting to attendees the exciting projects they have been working on this year, and then answering any questions and holding discussions.

Speakers

In addition, attendees had the opportunity to listen to a talk from two Greenwich alumni – a talk on planning for crowds using mathematics from Dr Aoife Hunt MBE, and a talk on 'Getting into FinTech' from Executive Consultant Kishan Patel that offered valuable insights into career paths in the tech industry. Dr Neil Saunders, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, also gave a talk illuminating the topic of AI, a subject he has previously spoken about at big events and in media appearances.

The event also attracted current students and staff including our Vice-Chancellor and CEO Professor Jane Harrington, who engaged with the Augmented Reality posters highlighting the activities held in each expo area.

Celebrating student success

The Digital Shark Expo event marked the end of another brilliant year of teaching at the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Science (FES) were proud to recognise and celebrate student success in this inclusive way. The Expo was the culmination of an eight-month project linked to the coursework of our COMP1755 students. They embraced the challenge and embarked on an intense learning journey designing a real campaign and omni-channel experience.

Inspired by the Greenwich University shark mascot, the students chose the shark symbol to represent the versatility of Greenwich talent. The interactive event format was inspired by Comicon.

The Digital Shark Expo mark was used to unify the campaign across all channels and assets. Sparked by the University’s strategy to help our students succeed, the experience was designed for industry to discover Greenwich talent and prospective students to get inspired to study with us.

The promotional assets for the event included a website, social posts, video trailers, and loops of student animations, the Get2Greenwich (G2G) game and augmented reality posters.

Take a look at the student website here, where you can play the G2G game created by students and find out more about the Digital Shark Expo.

Thank you

FES would like to thank all attendees for coming along and engaging with our presentations and demonstrations. A special thank you also goes to the team of staff and students behind Digital Shark Expo, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure this was an enjoyable day for all - well done all.
