Thank you for the nominations you're continuing to share thanking members of our university community for their ongoing support.

We would like to nominate and thank Natalie Morley, Dudley Farman, and Simon Springate, for their incessant work. Ever since the first lockdown in March, they have worked tirelessly coming into campus caring for our projects, keeping our colonies alive, organised protocols, took every precaution and introduced health and safety procedures so we could safely return to our work. All of this on top of their normal work demands.

Without this care and dedication, many of our projects would have suffered setbacks and months or years of work could have been irretrievable. As a result, we were able to resume experiments as best as circumstances would allow, and most importantly, in a safe way. Dudley, Natalie, and Simon are the campus heroes who have our full gratitude and admiration. It is not an exaggeration to say that their selfless work has been crucial for all of us.

All the PhD students at NRI

All throughout both lockdowns, every day without fail, Liz Laurence has been sending the HR team an e mail ‘blog’ which has been uplifting, amusing and very much appreciated.

As our Wellbeing champion she looks after us with her reminders about taking breaks, links to useful hints/tips  and offering to be there if we need to talk, encouraging us not to stress alone.  She goes above and beyond to make sure we are all ok. Thank you Liz from all in HR!

The HR Directorate

I would like to nominate Dudley Farman, one of NRI’s invaluable laboratory team. Dudley has been in the office since the first lockdown started. During a difficult and tumultuous year he has been a continuous source of resources and support to students and staff alike.

Dudley has worked tirelessly in NRI’s laboratories implementing systems and a covid secure environment to permit staff and students to resume their research, including being involved with building flow controls, door openers, and provision of fabulous sanitising stations around the building.

Caroline Troy, NRI

The NRI Postgraduate Society for their excellent self-organisation and communication at the start of the pandemic in the UK and lockdown.

In a difficult and changing situation, their input made the development of systems much easier for NRI management and support staff. The subsequent adaptation of our doctoral students to complicated procedures, despite the impact of lockdown on their research programs, has been appreciated.

Simon Springate, NRI

I would like to nominate Kalam Ali, Benjamin Sleeman, Jaswant Singh, Maajid Maajid and Stephanie Robinson for their support of SHIFT2021.

Moving our annual SHIFT conference online this year and opening it to external presenters and delegates has been a massive task and would not have been possible without their brilliant support - from coordinating promotion of the conference to internal and external audiences to navigating the technical challenges that hosting such a large event online with an external audience brings. It’s fantastic to see that we now have many delegates registered for the conference, including 140 external delegates from across the world as well as increased participation from university colleagues. Thank you!
