Held in the Knowledge Centre Lecture Theatre at the British Library, Dr April-Louise Pennant will begin conversation on the hurdles that affect Black women in accessing their right to an education. The event is being organised by Leading Routes, a Black-led initiative exploring new ways to strengthen the academic pipeline for Black students.

Everyone passionate about education is welcome to the event, which will take the format of an introductory lecture from Dr Pennant about the book. Professor Louise Owusu-Kwarteng from the University of Greenwich will respond, discussing the positioning of Babygirl You’ve Got This in the context of her own and other contemporary scholarship.

Professor Louise Owusu-Kwarteng, said:

“April-Louise's work feeds into national and international debates about BAME awarding. The work recognises the importance of recognising nuances such as differences within and between Black students, in terms of gender, class and ethnicity, but also seeing where there are commonalities in our experiences.

“It emphasises the importance of recognising success as well as potential issues along the way such as continually being mindful of societal barriers, as a result of our intersectional identities. In short, this literature fully aligns with what we are doing at Greenwich and I’m delighted to be a part of this event.”

This will be followed by a complimentary drinks reception and light refreshments.
