Introduction to PAL Mentoring:
PAL mentors offer a really valuable service to the university and to fellow students in particular. Students gain a great deal of support from the insights of fellow students who have overcome the same challenges they have.
What do PAL Mentors Do?

- Suggest and implement new projects
Who can be a PAL |Mentor?
Being a PAL mentor is not for everyone, and that is fine...
Firstly, you will need a recommendation from one of your tutors - yes, you have to be a Greenwich student.
The full job description can be found linked bellow but, in general, we are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping other, who enjoy being part of a team and are able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- You need to be familiar with the university's digital system such as Teams and MS Office.
- Peer-assisted Learning Mentors (PAL) are students who work alongside the Academic and Digital Skills Team to help their fellow students develop academic and digital skills, so they become independent learners. These skills are essential transferable skills that students can use for their uni learning and beyond into employment.
- PAL Mentors support new and continuing students in all aspects of their university learning as buddies and role models, in all aspects of student life at uni by sharing their experiences and insights.
Typical duties of a PAL Mentor:
Pal Mentors deliver workshops on Microsoft Apps including Teams. For example, they can provide demonstrations of how to conduct group work online, or how to deliver online presentations, drawing on their own experiences as students.
PAL mentors run online drop-ins and one-to-one appointments as part of the Academic and Digital Skills Team activities. All sessions will be student led with the aim of providing a role model in academic and digital learning that will help students gains a sense of belonging and grow their self-confidence.
Other jobs include providing admin and technical support to the Academic and Digital Skills projects and events such as Student Voices, WinterFest and GREFest.
