Collaborative research at the University of Greenwich co-created a communities of practice knowledge-sharing model contributing to improved community-police engagement through conflict resolution with marginalised BAME young people. An extended anti-hate crime partnership with Second Wave Youth Arts led to societal, practitioner and policy impact, increasing confidence and social inclusion of marginalised communities, improving police and youth worker professional development. Impact included improved mutual respect from perceptual and behavioural changes in community-police relationships. Trust between young people and the police increased, contributing to neighbourhood safety, leadership development and a de-escalation of criminalisation of young people formerly triggered during critical police-community encounters.
