An accredited programme
As a BSc Quantity Surveying degree apprentice, you will benefit from quality teaching on a course that has run since 2017. The course is accredited with the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), meaning you will work towards membership of the RICS, subject to passing the EPA (End Point Assessment), and becoming a chartered surveyor.
This course will develop your understanding of the technical competences of a quantity surveyor including tendering, cost and estimates, project and risk management, contract administration and law and construction economics. How you will be assessed will consist of presentations, coursework, exams, interviews, group work and work-based assessment, while the course teaches you through theory, case studies and sessions on professional skills. Your learning will be supported by the university’s support services and our lecturers, many of whom are chartered surveyors (members of RICS).
Work with big employers
As a BSc Quantity Surveying degree apprentice, you will work as an employee within the construction industry, working up to four days a week, whilst also attending the University of Greenwich’s Greenwich Campus, where the university’s Built Environment courses are based, at least one day in the week to learn and study.
Greenwich, being so near to Central London, is well-connected and an excellent location for employers. The Faculty has partnered with a wide range of companies in London, Kent, and Essex, including London-based, international, and multinational businesses. Your employment will mean you will gain years’ worth of valuable work experience within the housing, infrastructure, or commercial development industries.
Central London is also consistently ranked as the best student city in the world (QS Top Universities, Best Student Cities, 2022). At the Greenwich Campus, you will also be studying on a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A great pathway to a profession
The degree apprenticeship route takes longer to complete than the standard undergraduate degree route – this apprenticeship is a four-year course with one year to complete the End Point Assessment – but the costs of completing a degree will be much lower as the fees are covered by the government. Your employer must commit to pay you at least the minimum apprenticeship wage.
You will also have finished your apprenticeship with your degree and key knowledge from your course, as well as the work experience you will have gained over the course of during your studies. It is a great combination that will set you up for your pathway to a successful professional career as a quantity surveyor. The course itself conforms to the Chartered Surveyor (Degree) Standard (Quantity Surveying and Project Management pathway). This means you will work towards achieving the Standard’s Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours.
To embark upon a degree apprenticeship, you should sign up to the Government’s Find an Apprenticeship page. You’ll get alerts if any vacancies come up – employers are ultimately responsible for recruitment and you must first have secured employment as an apprentice before applying for this course.
