One Faculty on two great locations in the UK
The university’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, which teaches the university’s courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, is based at the Greenwich Campus in Greenwich near London, the UK capital, and the Medway Campus in Chatham, Kent. The university’s School of Science, School of Engineering, Natural Resources Institute and Medway School of Pharmacy are based at Medway, while the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and most of the university’s construction courses are based at Greenwich. Accommodation with 24/7 security is available at both campuses, and we are proud that our student accommodation at Greenwich is the second cheapest in London (The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023).
Regardless of which campus you’ll study in, you’ll find splendid historic buildings (both of which have been used as filming locations) as well as great facilities such as purpose-built science laboratories and engineering workshops at Medway and advanced computer labs at Greenwich. London is consistently ranked as the best student city in the world (QS Top Universities, Best Student Cities, 2022 and 2023), and there is also always plenty to do in Medway, which is well-linked to Central London but also the Kent countryside and Great British Coast.
I liked how the Medway Campus wasn’t too big and the fact that it was close to London.
Jessica Parr, MSc Global Environmental Change (Medway Campus)
I am an international student from Europe. I chose Greenwich because of its location and because it had great prospects for Business Computing students and graduates.
Petr Cerny, BSc Business Computing (Greenwich Campus)
Greenwich is the best university in the UK
The University of Greenwich is currently ranked as the best university in the UK by students (StudentCrowd University Awards, 2023). Student satisfaction for many Faculty of Engineering and Science courses has been noteworthy, including forensic science and civil engineering, and many graduates, including Maths, Biology and Civil Engineering graduates, have gone on to share their stories about Greenwich and the careers they have today. The university attracts many international students, some of whom applied because of recommendations from family and friends.
The primary reasons I chose Greenwich over the other universities in the UK are that it has a good track record for my subject and because one of my family members attended. They said their time here as an international student was excellent, which made me feel relieved.
Anindita Suha, BSc Computer Science
Faculty of Engineering and Science students also have a wealth of opportunities open to them to boost their employability skills or professional development from the start of their time with us, from working as Student Ambassadors to earn money while supporting their university, to attending events throughout the year such as careers fairs, expert-led lectures and networking and industry events. Students can also embark upon a placement year.
The Faculty of Engineering and Science is also continually investing in its resources. Brand new equipment was purchased this year to support mechanical engineering students with their learning, while a new food lab will support its undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in food science and food safety.
Inclusivity is a key Greenwich value
One of the key values of the University of Greenwich is inclusivity. International students have praised the inclusivity they have witnessed and have valued being a part of the welcoming, culturally diverse community of staff and students at Greenwich.
Inclusivity is one of the most important things a student, especially an international student, looks out for... It was imperative that the new place I would find for myself would speak about acceptance while also respecting the unique qualities we [international students] bring along.
Linda Dcruz, MSc Formulation Science graduate 2022, Scientist
