The iconic Greenwich Campus of the University of Greenwich is situated on a UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains the phenomenal architecture of the Old Royal Naval College. Inside buildings steeped in history are modern teaching spaces and a number of computer labs developed and used by the Games and Digital Media and Computer Science courses of the university.
Unique learning experiences on campus
Facilities in King William Court include a powerful GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) lab, a hardware comms lab and a games and digital media suite. Depending on which course they are studying, students can learn to prepare for cyber security attacks, develop with game engines or study artificial intelligence techniques and their applications.
Spacious lecture theatres in the beautiful buildings of King William Court and Queen Anne Court offer a unique learning experience, while classroom spaces include an adjustable classroom containing purpose-built desks that can be moved around the room easily – perfect for groupwork or project work.
To add even more flavour, there are display cabinets in several learning areas which are filled with antique games, games consoles and collectibles. It is the hope of the Undergraduate Co-ordinator of Games Design and Digital Media, Darrenlloyd Gent, that these will be eventually properly curated by the students.
Plenty of social spaces to enjoy
The Greenwich Campus also has plenty of social spaces. Throughout its buildings students will find open-plan, newly refurbished communal areas with comfy seating areas as well as workstations available to use at any time for studying or socialising. The Dreadnought Building, which contains an atrium, café and gym, offers a comfortable, relaxed area for students to enjoy between classes. It is also where Student Services and the Student Union can be found, and is home to the Lower Deck Bar, a lively bar with a variety of themed nights on offer, including club nights. The university holds regular Open Days and campus tours throughout the year, allowing prospective students to see the campus for themselves, and there is also a virtual tour of each campus available on the university website for prospective students to explore at their own leisure.
