Practical, employer-led programmes
The University of Greenwich is proud to announce two new programmes at the Faculty of Engineering and Science. These programmes will support adults over the age of 18 to gain the knowledge foundation and qualification to enter skilled employment in design and build or site supervision. Completion of the course will also offer pathways for students to embark upon further study through degree apprenticeships or a degree in construction management, civil engineering or built environment.
Construction Design and Build Technician CertHE and Construction Site Supervisor CertHE are Level 4 courses that have been designed to suit students who prefer a practical approach to study. Students will have the opportunity to put to practice their skills in the well-equipped workshops and simulated workplaces on the Medway Campus.
These courses can be completed in one year on a full-time mode. Moreover, the University of Greenwich also offers a part-time mode over two years, meaning they can be studied in conjunction with part-time employment.
Meet the needs of the construction and built environment industry
These new programmes have been developed to support students in gaining the necessary skills and knowledge to secure employment in a rewarding industry. Living and studying on our Medway Campus itself opens up possibilities due to its location. Students can benefit from industry connections within the south-eastern industrial belt or within London and the London Burroughs.
The construction and built environment industry have suffered from a shortage in skilled personnel in recent years as documented in national news, and so the skills and competencies you develop by taking this programme will be in high demand.
The Programme Team are an experienced team of academic and industry professionals whose teaching is informed by research and consultancy work. Trained postgraduate researchers will also contribute to seminar training with their latest research-led insight.
Site supervisor or design and building technician?
The choice of which course to study will depend on a student’s own interests and preferred career pathway. Site supervisors are responsible for overseeing the work of all personnel on a construction site and ensure construction projects run smoothly and to deadlines. Design and building technicians support architects, surveyors and other teams with the planning of projects, including checking for health and safety risks in the design of projects, ensuring compliance of projects and considering any environmental impacts. Both courses offer a great opportunity for entry into the construction world or promotion within industry.
