Medway is the place to be

TLDRoffon

What makes Medway in Chatham, Kent, a great location to study?

Everything within easy reach

The Medway Campus of the University of Greenwich is situated in the redeveloped Chatham Maritime Area. The area has been famously televised in the TV show Call the Midwife, and within this area can be found the gorgeous redbrick former naval buildings that make up the university’s Medway Campus.

Students on the Medway Campus are spoilt for choice with how to spend their free time. In the Chatham Maritime area, students can enjoy shopping, restaurants, bars, gyms, the cinema, or simply take a relaxing walk around the River Medway or on scenic St Mary’s Island. Also within walking distance is a water sports centre and Fort Amherst, a heritage military site, and with plenty of bars and nightclubs in the local area, as well as theatres, green spaces and opportunities for adventure – ice-skating or go-karting, anyone? – there won’t be a dull day.

As an older student, I couldn’t just easily displace my life. The location of the Medway Campus means I can live near home and everything I need is within easy reach.

Make lasting memories

Further afield, students can enjoy events, great shopping and nightlife in Maidstone, the largest town in Kent, or head to Rochester, a quirky town steeped in history that holds regular concerts and festivals throughout the year. Graduation ceremonies take place here, in the impressive Rochester Cathedral.

Both the great British seaside and Central London are easily accessible by train – perfect for days out with friends – while the inter-campus bus allows students a direct route to Avery Hill and Greenwich, where they can make use of facilities there, join in with more activities and events, and have even more opportunities to make great memories.

The three different campuses have been the most interesting aspect of the experience for me. There is always an adventure and journey, as you are able to explore them through the inter-campus bus service.

Come and see for yourself

The university holds regular Open Days and campus tours throughout the year, allowing prospective students to see the campus for themselves, and there’s also a virtual tour of each campus available on the university website for prospective students to explore at their own leisure.

Staff at an Open Day were so open, approachable and informative, and the Forensic Science team let us try out activities in the forensic lab suite. Seeing the Medway Campus convinced me to study at the University of Greenwich.
