Clearing as an international student is quick and easy

Jesh Ghale joined the University of Greenwich through Clearing as an international student and is now thriving as a BSc Computer Science student.

Not too late to apply for September 2024 entry

I had completed college in Nepal. After I received my grades, I was still not sure which university to choose and course to study. So, I started looking into courses and different universities in the UK. I researched the University of Greenwich and I found out about Clearing.

The Clearing process was simple and quick, and the university considered my qualifications which were not from the UK. They gave me a conditional offer where the condition was that I had to take an English language proficiency test called IELTS and receive more than 6.5 out of 9.

The University of Greenwich offers specialised courses in computer science, such as Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence), Computer Science (Cyber Security) and Computer Science (Games). Since I was not sure which specialism would be right for me, I applied for the general Computer Science course, which included a range of optional modules I could choose from. Additionally, the university also informed me about the scholarships available for international students. I received a scholarship of £2000 in my first year. This scholarship is called the International Scholarship Award, and it really helped me pay my tuition fees in full on my first year. This resulted in me getting a 2% discount on my tuition fees as I paid my tuition fees for the first year in one instalment. The money I saved because of this scholarship really helped me live in the UK for a few months without working in a part-time job which enabled me to focus on my studies and get used to the studying practices here in the UK like accessing study materials on Moodle.

Boost your skills and prospects with the University of Greenwich

I have worked on interesting projects and coursework that have developed my problem-solving and decision-making skills. This course has enabled me to perform extensive research on a certain area of interest and find a problem that is worth solving.

One of the best decisions I've made while studying here was becoming a Student Ambassador. In this role, I was responsible for providing campus tours to new students and encouraging prospective students to choose the University of Greenwich for their undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Additionally, I assisted organisers in preparing for career talks and open day events. Being a student ambassador has helped me network with people who share similar interests. Secondly, it kept me informed about vacancies at the university related to my course.

During a personal development week at university, I attended a career talk organised by the university, where I had the opportunity to meet the CEO of 6Point6. The talk was incredibly motivating, especially with several employees from the company sharing their hiring stories. Following the talk, there was a hackathon where we worked in groups to pitch ideas to the CEO. The key requirement was that our ideas needed to address real-world problems. The hackathon gave me a hands-on understanding of what it's like to work in a tech company.
