Kadijatu Conteh, a Health and Social Care BA Hons (Top-up) graduate, talks us through her time at Greenwich.

A graduate of 2021, Kadijatu told us that she initially chose to study at Greenwich because of its diversity of students, alongside its excellent quality of teaching. “The Greenwich campus is beautiful and well situated at the historic Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.” Kadijatu explained “The lecture halls are very spacious and educationally friendly. There is easy access to transportation, and they have university buses to shuttle between the three campuses.”

Kadijatu goes onto tell us; “I had a very pleasant experience with lecturers and fellow students from different parts of the world. It was an unforgettable experience to share knowledge, culture and support each other in terms of our studies. We seemed to get along very well despite our cultural diversity.” Kadijatu explained that although it was during the peak time of COVID-19, she and her peers found time to interact. “We were supportive of each other, and the lecturers were very considerate too.” She said.

“I enjoyed the lectures” Kadijatu revealed. “The modules were carefully selected and suitable for the course. The library is well stocked with useful resources, with both hard and electronic copies. Academic support is excellent and accessible to all students who wish to develop themselves academically.” She also praised the library staff for being very helpful.

Kadijatu told us that her lectures were well organised, and the Moodle shell had all she needed to study. She also explained that the lecturers were approachable and that the lectures were well-structured and delivered in a very comprehensive manner. “The academic staff were very generous with knowledge and were very keen to help and support us achieve our goals. They were also non-judgemental and professionally friendly. There was always an opportunity to ask questions or seek clarification if you needed further explanation about a topic.” Kadijatu said.

When we asked Kadijatu about her peers, she told us that she made friends and still maintains contact with some of them. “Some of them are working already and they are having a good time with their employment. while some of us are still studying at master’s level.” Kadijatu told us.

Kadijatu confirms that she gained knowledge and skills that are essential to work within and out of the domain of Health and Social Care. She says that the course has also given her a wider insight into the broader spectrum of health-related issues within the government structure.

Kadijatu enjoyed her time so much at Greenwich, then she is now undertaking an MSc in Global Public Health. She also works part-time as a staff nurse. After completing her studies, she would like to work within the Health and Social Care or Public Health domain.

Finally, we asked Kadijatu if she would recommend the Health and Social Care BA Hons (Top-up). “Of course yes, I will recommend this course as it has given me the confidence I needed to pursue a better career in life.” Kadijatu explained “The course has helped me develop critical thinking skills and problem solving. I can relate very well with some of the issues raised in some of the modules. It has enhanced my leadership skills and built up my confidence in working as a team to achieve a common goal.” She goes onto say; “I would like to thank my lecturers for all the support they gave me at a time when I needed it most. I was a mature student, but I was treated respectfully, and I am happy to say I completed my degree with outstanding achievement. The University of Greenwich met all of my expectations and I thank God it was a success.”

We thank Kadijatu for sharing her story and wish her all the best for the future!
