Senior Lecturer Wayne Burnette talks us through the course

“The University of Greenwich’s MA/PG Dip in Social Work is ideal if you have relevant experience and want to pursue a professional degree in Social Work. Once you’ve successfully completed the MA or Postgraduate Diploma, you’ll be able to register with Social Work England (SWE) and work as a qualified social worker.

Located in the heart of Greenwich, south-east London, you’ll be taught at our iconic Greenwich Campus which sits on a World Heritage Site. We’ll offer you a variety of inspiring and motivating learning activities led by academics, expert practitioners, and people with lived experience of social work. This will also give you the opportunity to learn with students from other health and social care disciplines.

You’ll learn the knowledge and skills required to practice as a reflective social worker to support people during challenging and challenging times in their life. The course will facilitate and develop your learning in anti-racist, anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practices, social work values, the legal framework, social work theories, methods, and interventions to prepare them for the challenges of contemporary social work.

The course includes two practice placements where you’ll be able to apply the classroom learning to real world practice set in a variety of statutory and non-statutory organisations. This will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience of contemporary social work practice.

In addition, the MA in Social Work has been reapproved by Social Work England in 2023 in accordance with Social Work England Qualifying Education and Training Standards.

Our course is an exciting hands-on course and I really do hope that you’ll join us here at Greenwich.”
